Four MASTER researchers are now seconded to Dalhousie University in Halifax. Two ERs are from HUA, one ER and one ESR are from UNIVE.They are working with Prof. Stan Matwin and his research group to outline the sea monitoring application requirements.
Andrea Marin from UNIVE just concluded his secondment to Thira. He discussed with the Municipality the many facets of managing tourism in Santorini: the need of collecting fresh and up to date data from many sources, the multiple aspect analysis that can benefit the Municipality tourism management and the construction of the Tourism Observatory. Here in the pictures we see Andrea Marin with Christallia at work!
MASTER partners Vania Bogorny from UFSC and Jose Macedo from UFC held a meeting during the CSBC 2018 conference in Natal, Brasil, taking place from the 22nd to 26th of July.
Congratulation to Prof. Vania Bogorny for the successful funding of the new project MATCH (Multiple Aspect Trajectory Construction for Human Behavior Analysis)! MATCH represents the MASTER correspondent for UFSC since it funds the UFSC secondments to EU. MATCH has been selected for funding by FAPESC (Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa Científica e Tecnológica do Estado de Santa Catarina) after a selective procedure. Congratulations again, Vania!
Thank you Yannnis Theodoridis (UPRC) for disseminating MASTER during your course "Learning from our movements – Mobility data analytics" at the 2nd ACM Summer School on Data Science in Athens! More infos on the school and Yannis Theodoridis course here: https://summerschool.acm.org/2018/
We are very proud to announce that the early stage researcher Lucas May Petry, supervised by Prof. Vania Bogorny from Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil), won a competition for a scholarship from the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE), which administers the Global Affairs Canada (former DFATD) scholarships. He has been awarded a graduate ELAP scholarship for a 5-6 month study period at our partner Dalhousie University (Canada) under the supervision of Prof. Stan Matwin. This result further reinforces the MASTER partnership creating a direct research collaboration between Brazil and Canada. Congratulations to Lucas, Vania and Stan!
A research paper presenting a semi-supervised approach to trajectory segmentation has been presented at the Mobile Data Management (MDM) conference in Aalborg. The paper is the result of the ongoing collaboration between CNR and DAL.
Prof. Ronaldo de Mello from UFSC is visiting CNR. Here we see Prof. Ronaldo holding a seminar about his current activity. Prof. de Mello is expert in non conventional databases like noSQL and NewSQL. He is collaborating with CNR researchers about defining multiple aspects trajectories data models.
Insight Lab, our partner at UFC, is visiting LIMOS at Ecole d'ingénieurs en Informatique d'Auvergne at Universite' Clermont Auvergne in Clermont Ferrand (France).Prof. Macedo presented his current activities at the hosting Lab, with the participation of UVSQ partner Prof. Zeitouni.
During the month of May, CNR and UVSQ held secondments to Thira (Santorini Island, Greece). During this period the seconded researchers had the opportunity to collaborate with the Municipality of Thira. The objective was to better understand the tourism issues that the island is facing: the large flows of tourists arriving everyday tend to congest the island. Additionally, the discussions focussed on the kinds of data Thira have and which additional data they potentially collect in the future. Further work has been done in discussing some preliminary ideas of research solutions that could support a better tourism monitoring. The overlapping of secondments between CNR and UVSQ gave a further opportunity for networking. Two coordination meeting has been help at the beginning and at the end of the secondment with UPRC…
